NovoSeven, which is generically known as Factor vIIa or Recombinant, is a hemophilia drug manufactured and marketed by the Danish company Novo Nordisk. NovoSeven was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to stop bleeding in patients suffering from hemophilia; however, it is also used off-label to treat cerebral hemorrhages, a type of stroke. The off-label uses, especially, sometimes cause serious NovoSeven side effects.

Elderly patients, heart disease patients, and patients with acute injuries are those who are most susceptible to NovoSeven injuries.

NovoSeven adverse effects vary in severity. Some of them are very much minor side effects, but the most lethal ones can be fatal. These include:

  • Stroke

  • Heart Attack

  • Death

There have been over 400 reports of adverse effects reported as a result of taking NovoSeven. In about half of those cases, the complications were very serious.

Because NovoSeven is an orphan drug, a drug that treats a rare condition, it was approved more quickly than other drugs would be. As such, its side effects probably did not receive sufficient scrutiny. The drug is also very expensive; it costs about $7,500 per dose.

If you or a loved one has been injured by NovoSeven serious side effects, a NovoSeven law firm might be able to help you secure compensation.
