Maxipime is an antibiotic drug meant to treat baceterial infections including respiratory, skin, genital, bone, and urinary tract infections. Unlike many other antibiotics, Maxipime is almost always injected into the body. Maxipime is generically known as Cefepime. Other trade names for this drug include: Maxcef, Cepimex, Cepimax, and Axepim. Maxipime is manufactured by Elan Pharmaceuticals.

Maxipime side effects include the following:

  • Skin Rash and itching
  • Vaginal Itching and Unwanted Discharge
  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Easy Bruising
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Confusion & Hallucinations
  • Blooding Diarrhea
  • Death

Currently there is preliminary research, which was recorded in journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases, that posited that Maxipime greatly increases the risk of early death. Currently, the FDA is evaluating these claims and has published a warning about the possible risks. This is especially problematic because other drugs with equal efficacy have been shown to not increase chances of mortality as much. As such, Maximpime is, today, prescribed much less than it used to be.
