Dexilant is a proton pump inhibitor marketed by the Japanese pharmaceutical conglomerate Takeda Pharmaceuticals. It is generically known as dexlansoprazole and has an alternate trade name of Kapidex, which is a name not used anymore. It is used to treat erosive oesophagitis and non-erosive gastro-oesophagal reflux disease (GERD). It was recently—on January 20, 2009—approved for treatment of the aforementioned conditions by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The primary cause for Dexilant ligation is that Dexilant causes serious bone fractures.

In May 2010, the FDA issued warnings about proton pump inhibitors that indicated that these drugs have been associated with an increased risk on bone fractures. Some of the most common bones to break are the hip, spine, and wrist, but other bones have been known to break as well.

The reason why proton pump inhibitors cause these injuries is because they work by reducing acid in the stomach, which, over time, inhibits the body's ability to absorb calcium, thus weakening bones.

Generally, the patients who are at the greatest risk of Dexilant bone fractures are those who have been taking it for more than a year. Most of the people studied were over 50 years of age (this is, of course, the age in which osteoporosis would more likely afflict the patient).
